target audiance

Target audience for crime thrillers

The demographic for crime thriller isn’t gender specific , because both males And females enjoy the genre because there is a wide range of different types of crime thrillers so they appeal to both men and women .They usually are targeted for ages 15-40 because those are the age of people who have grown up with those film’s unlike the older generations because films from their times are very different . There is no specific ethnicity the genre is aimed towards but nationality is based towards English speaking countries because all of the biggest crime thrillers over the years such as se7en and pulp fiction are English speaking film’s and it is very rare for an international crime thriller to make it on the big screen in English speaking countries. The genre attracts many different viewers from different classes , middle and upper class audience will enjoy to watch because it will give them a view they haven’t seen before in the form of the life of a criminal or the police so they enjoy it because it gives them insight into an unknown world for them but then the lower/working class will enjoy watching them as they can relate to some of the situations in the films as they experience it themselves on a daily basis .

changes to initail ideas

changes to initial ideas for our own film

Due to the realisation that our idea is farfetched and would cause difficulty getting all the appropriate actors, costumes and the we decide to change the idea slightly . The idea has changed from the blackout idea off a detective that has blackouts and commits murders and other crimes while he has had the blackouts and wakes up not realising what he has done.

Our new idea is a man who is convinced he is the disciple of the Greek god of the hunt Artemis , and the protector of the young , the disciple isn't the main focus of the film it just gives motive and reason for the characters action in the film and is a unique selling point as not many other films delve into Greek mythology for the background of their character . The character hunts the victims down and then takes them but they see it as an act of good will as they see the world as a dark place and he is protecting them just like Artemis has `told` him to do, there will also be the grieving parents who's child is taken but the father is also a police detective so he takes it into his own hands to catch the person who kidnaps his daughter . We feel as a team this is a better idea as it really took some thinking to come up with and we really thought outside the box to come up with all the different aspects we could use in the trailer.

we will use imaginary of the god with posters and paintings of the god and symbolism throughout ,to emphasise the reasons why the character is doing what he is doing and the reasons behind it. We have changed the film name to "   tbd  " because it plays on the narrative of the film and what it is about and the characters that are in thr film and why they do what they do.

kiss the girls trailer analysis

conventions
shadow character - in this trailer there is a few shots of a character that is in the shadows and is not clear who it is ,this is the same as two off the other the trailers I have analysed that are se7en and zodiac and is a common theme in trailers because it is an enigma and it makes the audience wonder who it could be .The use of enigma is great for thriller trailers because it gives another reason to go and watch the film because the audience is intrigued as to who the shadowy character is and what his/her role is in the film.
Another convention is a voice over from someone that isn't a character ,this convention is very common in older films but it is a old convention these days and is very rarely seen . It is common in older trailers such as se7en.

Sound
At the beginning of the film there is a small cry from a women that sounds like they're in pain , it's a small short sound but it sets the tone for the rest of the trailer and captivates the audience straight away because the noise is very not able and sets you on edge so you are very focused on the rest of the trailer ,during the beginning there is a Erie time of music that is quite quiet but is still not able and builds up the tension as the schemes go on, this engages te auidnace even more as it makes them wait in anticipation . The music then stops as crucial plot points are revealed and focuses the audiences whole attention to the points to give away some more information about the film , then a up beat loader music starts as a chase begins and suprises the auidnace because of the volume and suden change in pace , this also is a relatable point as many people have a fear of being chased so it interacts with the viewers even more so than usual .Unformilar sounds flash up as the victim is talking about their experience , this adds to the mystery as the sounds may be linked to the film and the situation and the sounds are unknown also adding to the realism to the viewers because of the fear of the Unknown

se7en trailer analysis

conventions
voice over- a voice over is used throughout the trailer , this is uncommon in trailers nowadays but when this film was out they were very common this shows how the conventions of thrillers and films a like can change throughout the years . the voice over takes away from the thrill factor off the trailer because it adds a sense of familiarity to it by adding a normal persons voice , without the voice over it would completely draw the audience in but because of it leaves them still not fully engaged with what is going on in the trailer.it also uses a lot of red text throughout the trailer especially when the seven sins flash up , they are all in red , this is gives the effect of evil and blood because the colour red is the colour of evil and so also the colour of blood , this fits into the film as those who commit the sins are killed .

sound
There is many sound effects throughout such as gun shots and ticking clocks , these sounds fit the film because it is about murder and they have a matter of time to catch the killer .There is also music that speeds up in beat as the trailer goes on and eventually keeps a steady up pace beat as the trailer is reaching the climax and it becomes more intense  and then cuts off as the two main characters share a very important piece of dialogue when the rookie asks "have you ever seen anything like this" to the veteran and he says no even though he has been the game a long time which shows just how bad it really is.

editing
there is a lot of flash cuts and white flash cuts this gives the effect of rushing and not being certain what is happening just like how the characters are acting in the film , running round and trying to figure it out .There are also titles throughout the trailer of the deadly sins that remind us what is next in the murders. at the beginning it is slow paced, it uses fade to blacks and is very dialogue based but as the trailer goes on the editing is more flash cuts and more action in the clip based, but then right at the end it slows down to focus on key points and goes back to fade to blacks.

camera
its uses a reverse zoom shot when the veteran detective is investigating the crime scene so you gradually see more and more of the horror he is witnessing this gives the effect of suspense because you don't know what you're about to see. A lot of close ups are used to see the characters expressions when they see something in one off the crime scenes this gives us an insight into what the character might be feeling by the way they look and gives an effect of immersion into the trailer because you can almost feel the same emotions as the character on screen .

mise en scene
Morgan freeman`s veteran character dresses in very formal dress such as a suit with a proper tie and long coat with a hat where as brad Pitts character the new detective wears different clothes , still s shirt and tie but a skinny tie not done up properly and a leather jacket , this shows that he is a new kid on the block because he isn't dressed as smart or dressed differently to the veteran. There is a lot of dark lighting and red colors because the darkness is uneasy and fits the atmosphere and mood but also a lot of neon colors.

zodiac trailer analysis(need to finish)

conventions
low key lighting is used many times often to hide characters faces or because of the setting they are in for example a basement or in the middle of the street at night this gives a effect of suspense and mystery because you dont know who the character is or what they will do so it keeps you guessing and adds to the suspense of the scene.

sound
gun shots in time with fireworks going off and then the beginning off the tension music as well. there is noises off telephones going off that arent in the scene depicted while they are looking at  the cipher which gives the effect of unknowing because they don`t know what the cipher says and are confused by it.A constant tapping noise in the background represents the constant threat of the killer but it wont go away just like they cant find the killer . then half way through the trailer the music completely changes and turns into a up beat soft rock song which changes the mood of the trailer and goes against what the first half did. there is a convention of heavy breathing in a phone call in one of the scenes , this is goes back to the same mood as the first half of the trailer but has more effect because it is between a up beat music .There is a point where the music turns off and it is in a dark basement and there is a creaking off floorboards and a humming are the only two sounds that can be heard but the characters face can be seen and he looks very scared and surprised to hear the sounds and after that another character standing half in the shadows turns a light off as a crash sound happens and then changes scene.

girl on the train trailer analysis (need to finish)

conventions

tension music- the music is very low key but is a constant beat and has small pauses in specific parts to have emphasis on key pieces of dialogue, as the trailer goes on the back beat gradually gets stronger and louder as the tension and suspense is being built up and then stops when it gets to a defining point and completely puts the focus onto the line the character says . The music restarts as the title roles and slowly fades out with a beat.

editing

the editing it is time with the music so it changes scene , fades to black or jump cuts on the beat on the song. a lot of fades to black and dialogue still playing while it is black , this means it focuses the audience in on the important line and also reveals another small bit about the film but also more mystery.
